Hello. I'm Roger Periam and I've just
stepped down as the treasurer
at Wilford Church.
My last tasks were to present the 2008 accounts to our April
annual meeting and to publish them here.
Ring me on 0115 846
2173 or send an email to rogerperiam@ntlworld.com
if you have any questions about those accounts. |
 |
I'm very pleased to introduce you to Peter Brown, who is the
new church treasurer. Peter had already taken over the
banking and the payment of our bills from the start of 2009 and he
has now taken over fully
from me. Please contact him if you have any questions
about our finances, or if you want to know more about how you can
give towards the work of our church. |

Five Financial Facts
|
|
1. It costs over £35,000 every year to pay for a
minister's wage, National insurance, housing and pension.
2. Costs are rising each year because of inflation and increasing
pension contributions, but our gifts aren't rising by the same amount.
3. A standing order (with Gift Aid if you can) to the church's bank
account is the most effective way to give.
4. Half of our regular income comes from just one quarter of our givers.
5. As a result of our Pledge Sunday in April 2006, we managed
to close the shortfall in our income for that year. (In previous years the
shortfall has been approximately £6,000.) We had been making up these shortfalls from our
reserves, but
needed to balance our accounts because we had nothing left in the bank.
The even better news is that in 2007 and 2008 we again 'stayed solvent'.
|
|
 |
But
inflation and general cost
increases are still affecting us and we decided that
in 2008 we needed to make 11 May, Pentecost
Sunday, our Finance Gift Day
so we can continue to balance our budget and look forward to
continuing growth.

The response to our gift day has been excellent
- with thirty families or individuals responding. Seventeen have
confirmed or increased their regular giving promises and many donated one-off gifts. |

What else can you do?
|
|
|
|
Please take a look around the rest of this section of the
website. There's some information on what we're planning to spend
and on how much money we expect to receive. You can also look at the
2008
accounts, which are the latest ones published to (and approved by) the
church family at our annual meeting. |
 |
|
But perhaps most importantly, please consider
prayerfully how you might give towards the work
of Wilford Church. This issue was talked about as part of
our programme for 'Sharpening the Focus of our Church' and so you might find
the message on 'The Grace of Giving'
helpful.
