Fellowship Event for 2007

Church Weekend Away

February 23th-25th 2007

What is going to be happening?

To try to give you some idea of what we have in mind, I have worded this article in the form of questions to try to convey something of our vision for what could happen.

Many churches do a similar thing each year to help build relationships across the Church Family. A weekend allows more time than a Sunday to relax, enjoy meals, worship, have fun, and focus together.

Why Scarborough? [picture above]

There are plenty of things to do during Saturday afternoon’s free time – go to the beach and harbour; go shopping; go visit Robin Hood’s Bay; or the Sea Life Centre; or the Castle; or enjoy the local coffee shops.

It’s not so much the surroundings, but the opportunity to take time away that is key. Hotels out of season are keen to welcome parties such as us.

What sort of programme?

As we did in 2006, we would anticipate providing a programme of worship and teaching for a variety of age groups and invite some people to help us with this:

We welcome a local team to help with youth and children’s activities. There are rooms that would be available for a youth programme and similarly the children’s work.

Friday night will have to be flexible - there will be an introductory session – but on Saturday morning, after breakfast, we would hope to plan two sessions of worship, teaching and perhaps workshops separated by coffee time.

We would have lunch together followed by some free time in the afternoon for people to relax and enjoy the beach and town etc.

Tea would be served at the end of the afternoon as people arrive back from their activities.

Saturday evening will include a Banquet, home made entertainment and then an act of worship to conclude the evening.

Sunday morning, after breakfast we would anticipate a teaching session followed by communion all together.

After Sunday lunch we clear up and head home.

This is a rough outline of what we anticipate happening, although some details may vary. The idea is to put on a programme that provides opportunity for friendship and fellowship to grow, to worship together – to have fun and relax.

Please pick up a registration form now and return it to Charlie or Krista as we'd like to give numbers to the hotel as quickly as we can.  We're also offering a savings scheme so that you can spread the payments for the weekend over a number of months

We are engaging in a series in our church on the importance of Prayer. As a leadership team we feel that it is essential for the life of our church that we raise the tempo of prayer in our church life and in our everyday life. We want prayer to be the first resort, not the last; to be natural in the home. We have felt the challenge of prayer, particularly for men. So often men subconsciously leave the praying to the women, thinking that they can get on with the "practical" things. We have been learning that prayer is for everyone an essential thing. Two starting point challenges recently for our members have been:
bulletTo commit at least ten minutes a day to God, allowing time for silence and listening in your time with God - not just coming with a list!
bulletThe second is to commit to giving thanks for each meal that you share at home - including in that grace, prayer for other family members not with you at that meal.

Why not join us in this adventure - it will change your life for ever!
