Tips from Freepint (Librarians' Newsletter)

For Hotmail accounts, you need to do the following to ensure that emails are received only from the people/organisations that are acceptable to you:

1. Log in to your Hotmail account.
2. On the right side of the screen, click Options.
3. On the left side of the Options screen, click Mail.
4. Within the Mail options, click Junk E-mail Protection.
5. Within the Junk E-mail Protection options, click Junk E-mail Filter.
6. In the Junk E-mail Filter screen, change the setting to Exclusive. This will ensure that you receive emails only from addresses that you have added already to your Contacts list or on your Safe List......
7. Within the Junk E-mail Protection options, use the Safe List option to add email addresses and domains from which you are happy to receive emails but do not want to add to your Contacts list.

How to filter out bad language in your email if using Outlook Express
By Charles Dejongh

If you have small children who use your computer, you can protect them from reading certain emails or foul language. You can either have these sent to another folder or you can delete the messages.

Step One
Open Outlook Express and click on message at the top of your Outlook Express window then click on Create Rule From Message.

Step Two
With a left click of your mouse put a check mark in the boxes under conditions and you wish to filter out bad language or certain words

Step Three
Under Actions use your mouse to put a check mark on the action you want to happen if certain words are found in the email. On my Display I have Delete it. This way the message will be deleted. You can select copy to a folder you specify or move it to a folder you specify.

Step Four
This is where you type the words you want to check for.
Click on the underlined statement for the subject line in your email under rule 3 as the display that says contains specific words.
Now type the word you want to check for.

Step Five
Now click on the underlined statement under rule 3 that says contains specific words for the message body. Type the word you want to check for in the message body.
Click Add and you’re done!
