Centered in Christ

In a month where we had baptisms at most of our services we looked at some passages from the book of Colossians, helping us to think about how we pray for one another, who it is we pray to, and place our trust in, who we turn to, and how we need to lift our eyes to look towards Jesus, turning away from the things of the world, and turning instead to christ, entirely centred in and on Him.

Praying for each other

Scripture often encourages us to pray, and to pray for each other. In Baptism we promise to pray for those being baptised. Colossians 1 begins with an excellent prayer which perhaps we could helpfully use as a template for our prayers for on another.

Trusting in Christ

Looking at the theme of Colossians 1 v15 to 23 we considered seeing christ as he really is, the one for whom all things were created. We noted how amazing it is that Jesus created all things not for his own benefit but for ours, and more than that invites us as a part of his body to be involved in his work of reconciliation. Opening our eyes to this full vision of who he is should help us all to put our faith and trust in him.

Thinking right and looking up

Using Colossians 3:1-11 Maureen helped us to consider how we might live in the light of Jesus Christ, putting away those earthly attitudes and behaviours that are not of God, and turning instead to a new life in Christ Jesus.
