18th-24thMay is the Mental Health Foundation’s Mental Health Awareness Week and this year’s focus is ‘kindness’.

Why kindness?

One thing that we have seen all over the world is that kindness is prevailing in uncertain times.

We have learnt that amid the fear, there is also community, support and hope.

The added benefit of helping others is that it is good for our own mental health and wellbeing. It can help reduce stress and improve emotional wellbeing.

So as we look ahead to this week let’s look for ways to be kind.

Some examples

  • call or message a friend you’ve not spoken to for a while
  • send a letter to an elderly relative or friend/neighbour
  • add an extra item to your shopping to donate to the foodbank
  • give to charity what you would have spent on a coffee or lunch this week

Remember - kindness is free to give, but priceless to receive.
